Mr Ayman Smadi
Director of the MENA International Association of Public Transport (UITP) and the MENA Center for Transport Excellence, Dubai, UAE
Before joining UITP, Mr. Smadi, was the Executive Director of Transport and Traffic Management at the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM). In this capacity, he oversaw several key departments, including Traffic Operations, Public Transport Operations, Transportation Planning, Joint Traffic Enforcement Unit, and Traffic Control Center.
He was directly responsible for the development and implementation of transportation policy and programs in Amman; a growing city of 3.5 million, including implementation of the Amman BRT, traffic safety, parking management, and intelligent transport systems. He worked as liaison with international organizations and donors, including the World Bank, AFD, EBRD and currently coordinates Amman's C40 program.
Mr. Smadi holds a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering from Iowa State University (USA); an M.S. in Civil Engineering – Transportation Systems from the University of Oklahoma (USA); and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from Jordan. He was selected in 2008 as a Fulbright Scholar.

Mr Abdul Aziz Abdulla Malik
Chairman of the UITP MENA Centre for Transport Excellence
Mr Malik holds a BSc in Industrial Engineering from the University of Arizona, USA. He has vast experience of more than 26 years in bus planning and operation including ticket machine, scheduling software, AVL system, and bus specification. He was part of the preparation of Dubai bus master plan and Marine transport, and he participated in Dubai Metro and Marin transport design stage. Additionally, he has an experience in organising transport events and preparing topics and scientific program for public transport conferences and workshops.
Mr Malik was the Director of the Public Transport department in Dubai and later on the Director of School Bus department. In 2007, he was the Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Taxi Corporation, part of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), where he contributed to the establishment of the Governance Structure for the taxi industry in Dubai. In 2011, he became Advisor to Dubai Taxi Corporation.
Mr Malik is the founder of UITP MENA division, and he was chairing the division from 2005 to 2009. He was also the founder of the UITP MENA Taxi Working Group, and he was chairing the group from 2009 to 2013. Currently, he is the Advisor to Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector in RTA.
Ms Aline Delatte
Senior Researcher at UITP MENA Centre for Transport Excellence
Ms Delatte is conducting transport social research at MENA CTE since September 2015. Her current field of interest is the analysis of urban travel behaviour in the context of changing urban and societal dynamics. Her work contributes to elaborate solution to foster sustainable urban transport development in the MENA region.
Prior to joining UITP MENA CTE, Ms Delatte worked as a Research Associate and Project Coordinator at the Institute for Transport Research at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) and at the Technische Universität Berlin, Department of Integrated Transport Planning. Throughout her academic career she gathered experience in partnership and fund raising for research projects.
Ms Delatte has a Master degree in Civil Engineering from Ecole Spéciale des Travaux Publics (ESTP) University in Paris, France. She also holds a Master degree in Urban Management from the Technical University of Berlin.
Mr Amr Ramadan
Senior Researcher and Partnerships Officer at UITP MENA Centre for Transport Excellence
Mr Ramadan is currently conducting research on transport mobility indicators, administrative and regulatory reforms in public transport and informal public transport in the MENA region. Ramadan has a diverse and significant policy research background.
Mr Ramadan holds a B.A degree in Economics from the American University in Cairo (AUC) and a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration at AUC specialized in Management of Public Sector Reform.
Prior to joining UITP MENA CTE, Ramadan was Policy Consultant at The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO UN) at the Regional Office of the Near East (RNE). Before that, he was the Research and Documentation Manager at the Informality Research Project in Cairo. His work as a Policy Consultant with the Egyptian Ministry of transport allowed him to research topics related to public transport, urban mobility, transport regulations, government bodies and transport policy and informal transport through studying best practices in Africa, Latina America and Asia.
Ms Farida Moawad
Urban Mobility Junior Researcher at UITP MENA Centre for Transport Excellence
Having joined UITP in 2016, Ms. Moawad has been researching about and taking stock of (public) transport stakeholders, services and developments across MENA countries and cities, in preparation for the UITP MENA Transport Report 2017.
Before that, Ms. Moawad supported the GIZ project Energy Efficiency and Climate Change Mitigation in the Land Transport Sector in the ASEAN region, in Thailand. She also has experience working with international development organizations such as UN-Habitat and UNDP.
Ms. Moawad has an interdisciplinary background with a B.A. in Political Science and Economics (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt), and an M.A. in International Development Studies (Philipps-Universität Marburg).
